    The basic level of annual support. Named for the defensive wooden barrier which protected the Fort’s north facing land approach that from the Cape Fear River to the Ocean, a distance of one-third mile across the peninsula.   • Mounds Society $100.00

    Recognizing the massive earth mounds that formed the perimeter of the Fort’s North land face across the peninsula from the Cape Fear River and then for one mile south along the sea front to the New Inlet which was used by Blockade Running Vessels.   • Blockade Runner Society $250.00

    Recognizes the steam powered ships running the blockade mainly between Wilmington and Bermuda or Nassau. Only 570 miles from Nassau, a steamer could travel to Wilmington in 48 hours. With Bermuda only 674 miles from Wilmington blockade runners could make the trip in about 72 hours. Your benefits include a Friends of Fort Fisher decal, and 10% off in our gift shop.

  • Gibraltar of the South Society $500.00

    Named because Fort Fisher was the largest coastal fortification in the Confederacy. The mighty fort was armed with 44 pieces of heavy artillery, including long-range artillery mounted atop a 43-foot-high seacoast battery which was protected by an innovative field of land mines.   • Col. Charles F Fisher Society $1000

    The Fort’s namesake was Charles F. Fisher, colonel of the 6th Regiment North Carolina troops and the first Tar Heel field officer killed in the war’s first major battle at (Manassas/Bull Run), Virginia on July 21, 1961.     Named in recognition of the Fort’s commander and construction designer who led the multiyear effort to build and then lead the Fort’s defense.
